UMassM2D2
About
UMassM2D2, or the Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center, is a collaborative innovation hub established through a partnership between the University of Massachusetts Lowell and the UMass Medical School. Founded in 2007/2008, its mission is to support emerging medical device and biotechnology companies by providing access to research facilities, expertise, and resources across the UMass system. The center operates lab-based incubators in Lowell and Worcester, fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial environment. It offers incubator space with shared lab facilities, business planning, product prototype development, and clinical pathway assistance. M2D2 also hosts networking opportunities, including the annual $200K Challenge pitch competition, to help startups secure funding. With strong support from the state, university, and industry, M2D2 has achieved financial self-sufficiency and stability while assisting over 100 startups in raising significant external funding and creating job opportunities in the medical device supply chain.
