Mechanical ventilation is influenced by ambient environmental conditions and ventilator settings, resulting in adverse effects of under- or over-humidification (i.e. decreased relative humidity and condensation buildup, respectively). To solve the shortcomings of existing humidification systems, Tergis Technologies has developed RespSleeve, a patented polymer-based heating sleeve which, envelopes breathing circuits to maintain gas temperature and absolute humidity irrespective of both ambient air temperature and ventilator build. In preliminary studies, RespSleeve prototype decreased condensation build up by 7-fold when compared to the current market gold standard ventilator circuits.
