Globally, 300M (CAGR 8%) suffer from chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers. Without frequent monitoring, life-threatening infections can set in quickly. This may result in limb amputation and a 50% chance of death in less than 5 years. Current wound care solutions are clunky and not real-time, making them ineffective At Peachderm, we are developing a smart dressing for chronic wounds to detect the onset of infection in hours rather than in days (10x faster). We do this by using ultrathin flexible biosensors to measure key infection biomarkers. By doing so, we may reduce the healing time by half and nearly eliminating deadly complications such as sepsis, limb amputation or in certain cases even death.
