In the age of AI, nobody should die of visibly detectable diseases. Despite being visible to the naked eye at a stage early enough to treat, oral cancer kills 30 people per day in the US alone, with a 20% mortality rate. At Mal-ID, we stand by the vision that image analysis is the way of the future for visual screening. Melanoma and Squamous cell carcinoma, among other cancers, can be spotted visually by either an experienced physician, or soon, a well-trained algorithm. We are dedicated to leveraging AI to make early stage cancer screening available to everyone, while setting the stage for the next generation of AI-incorporated digital health. Oral Cancer is where we are focusing first, as it is crisis-level in many areas. We are working to develop our products as quickly as possible to save as many lives as we can. Building an AI ecosystem will also have numerous benefits beyond early detection: the images and data sets produced from oral cancer screenings will have applications in AI-powered orthodontic and periodontic modeling.
