Fidmi Medical is an Israeli start-up that is developing a low-profile, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) device for the $510 million enteral feeding tube market.

Enteral feeding is a common way for people who cannot eat orally to receive nutrition and medication. People who have had a stroke, or suffer from dementia, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, or certain types of cancer may be candidates for a long-term enteral feeding solution.

Due to degradation, tubes require frequent removal and replacement. Problems arising from ongoing tube maintenance and replacement include accidental clogs, tube dislodgment and tract perforation. These issues pose a substantial financial and emotional burden on patients and the healthcare system alike.

Fidmi Medical’s low-profile PEG device eliminates the need for frequent tube replacements and maintains tube patency (free of obstructions). The product’s semi-rigid internal bumper is designed to stay securely in place to prevent device dislodgment. Its disposable feeding tube insert maintains tube cleanliness and eliminates clogging. The device breaks apart into small pieces for trauma-free removal.
