Our Vision

It is our goal to construct a simulator for minimally invasive procedures on the heart. Providing realistic handling in combination with direct feedback this practical experience will offer a better preparation for transseptal puncture. Other than in conventional simulators a physical model of patients anatomy will be integrated in the simulator.

Why is there a need for a simulator?

The number of patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases is steadily increasing. Those conditions include atrial fibrillation, which is the most common reason for transseptal puncture. Due to the high success rate of this procedure it is very likely to become clinical routine.

Still certain anatomic anomalies often cause difficulties for surgeons. In addition, the acquisition of the method requires a profound training and a significant number of surgeries under supervision, which not only costs a lot of time in the operating theatre, but also poses an increased risk for complications

There are already simulators trying to tackle this subject but mostly those products are insufficient solutions. Either they are too far from reality or they require animal hearts and extensive preparations.

Our goal is to reproduce this procedure as realistic as possible, without animal testing and with high reproducibility. The simulator should allow for anomalies, to optimally prepare the surgeon for the actual surgery!
