Acelity was a global medical technology company that specialized in advanced wound therapeutics and regenerative medicine. Originally founded as Kinetic Concepts Inc. (KCI) in 1976, the company developed innovative wound care products, including the notable V.A.C.® Therapy, which introduced negative pressure wound therapy in the mid-1990s. By 2016, this therapy had treated over 10 million wounds worldwide. The company was formed by merging KCI, LifeCell Corporation, and Systagenix Wound Management, creating a comprehensive portfolio in wound care and regenerative medicine. Acelity generated approximately $2 billion in annual revenue and marketed its products in more than 75 countries. Its offerings included advanced wound therapeutics, regenerative medicine solutions like AlloDerm® and Strattice™, and collagen wound dressings such as PROMOGRAN®. Acelity's products targeted healthcare providers, aiming to improve clinical outcomes and reduce patient care costs. In 2019, Acelity was acquired by 3M, integrating its advanced solutions into 3M’s medical offerings.
